Are you a caring, patient and resilient Learning Support Assistant with a passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

TeacherActive is currently recruiting a dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistant for a full-time position within a specialist education setting in Colchester. This role is available for an immediate start and offers an excellent temporary-to-permanent opportunity for the right candidate.

As a SEND Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional support to access their education and reach their full potential.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND

• Supporting pupils with needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH and learning difficulties

• Helping pupils engage with lessons and classroom activities

• Supporting children''s communication, social and emotional development

• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive behaviour

• Providing additional support to pupils who may display challenging behaviour

• Following individual education, behaviour and support plans

• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other education professionals

• Helping to maintain a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment

• Supporting pupils throughout the school day, including during break and lunchtime where required

We would love to hear from you if you:

• Have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND

• Have experience within a school, specialist provision, care, residential or youth-work setting

• Are patient, resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations

• Can build positive and professional relationships with pupils

• Have strong communication and teamwork skills

• Are reliable and able to commit to a full-time, long-term position

• Have a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs

• Are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Previous school-based experience is desirable; however, candidates with relevant transferable experience from care, support work, residential care, youth work or other SEND-focused environments are also encouraged to apply.
