Credit Control Manager

Location: Bedford
Hours: 37 hours per week, full-time
Salary: £35,000 – £37,000 DOE
Contract: Permanent

Are you an experienced Credit Control professional with proven team management experience? Do you enjoy taking ownership, improving processes and getting the best out of your team?

We''re looking for a Credit Control Manager to join a well-established organisation based in Bedford. This is a key role overseeing the day-to-day billing and credit control function, while leading and developing a small finance team.

You''ll need to be highly organised, commercially aware and confident managing complex accounts, customer relationships and sensitive payment conversations.

Please note: Previous experience managing a small team is essential. Applicants without this experience cannot be considered.

About the role:

You''ll take ownership of the billing and credit control function, ensuring invoices are accurate, collections are effective and the team delivers a consistently high standard of service.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Lead, motivate and develop a small finance team.
• Oversee the full billing and credit control cycle.
• Ensure invoices are accurate and issued on time.
• Monitor customer accounts and collection activity.
• Manage complex account queries and escalations.
• Handle sensitive payment conversations professionally.
• Maintain financial controls and processes, including VAT.
• Oversee Direct Debit collections.
• Build strong customer and internal relationships.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Strong experience in Credit Control, Billing or Accounts Receivable.
• Previous experience managing a small team – essential.
• Experience coaching and developing team members.
• Strong knowledge of financial processes and controls.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Confident communication and relationship-building abilities.
• A professional, proactive and customer-focused approach.
