ITS Construction Professionals South are working with an established construction contractor based in Dorset, who are looking to appoint a Small Works Project Manager to join their team.
Our client delivers a varied portfolio of construction, refurbishment, planned works and responsive maintenance projects across the commercial, corporate and public sectors. Their work ranges from smaller reactive jobs through to more involved refurbishment and improvement schemes, meaning no two days are likely to be the same.
With a strong reputation for quality, reliable delivery and long-standing client relationships, our client is looking for someone who can take ownership of projects from initial instruction through to completion.
This is a hands-on role for someone who understands the realities of managing multiple small works projects, coordinating trades and subcontractors, keeping clients informed and making sure jobs are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
You''ll be joining a team with a young, energetic feel, a positive approach and a genuine focus on getting things done. They''re looking for someone proactive, organised and confident making decisions, who can build strong relationships with clients and site teams while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing a portfolio of small works, responsive repairs, planned maintenance and refurbishment projects.
- Taking projects from initial enquiry and site survey through to planning, delivery and final handover.
- Arranging site visits to assess works, establish requirements and identify potential challenges.
- Preparing programmes, coordinating labour and allocating resources to meet project deadlines.
- Managing direct labour, subcontractors and specialist trades across multiple live jobs.
- Monitoring progress against programme, budget and agreed client expectations.
- Liaising with clients, building managers, facilities teams and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients, providing regular updates and resolving issues as they arise.
- Obtaining quotations, arranging materials and coordinating subcontractor attendance.
- Monitoring project costs and identifying potential commercial risks or additional work requirements.
- Managing variations, additional works and changes to scope, ensuring these are recorded and agreed.
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with relevant health and safety requirements, site procedures and quality standards.
- Coordinating risk assessments, method statements and other project documentation where required.
- Carrying out regular site inspections to monitor workmanship, safety and overall progress.
- Managing snagging, defects and completion documentation before handing projects back to clients.
- Maintaining accurate project records, reports and updates for the wider management team.
- Responding to changing priorities and ensuring urgent works are managed effectively.
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and colleagues.
- Previous experience managing small works, refurbishment, maintenance or general building projects.
- A solid background within the construction industry, ideally with a main contractor or building contractor.
- Experience managing multiple projects or work orders at the same time.
- A good understanding of construction methods, sequencing and the coordination of different trades.
- The ability to organise labour, subcontractors, materials and site activities effectively.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills, with the confidence to manage expectations and resolve issues.
- Commercial awareness, including monitoring costs, managing variations and working within agreed budgets.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads in a busy environment.
- A proactive attitude, with the confidence to take ownership and see projects through to completion.
- A good understanding of health and safety requirements and site compliance.
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and project-related documentation.
- A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to sites across the region.
- Relevant construction qualifications, such as SMSTS or SSSTS, would be advantageous.
This is a great opportunity to join an established construction contractor with a varied workload and a team that values people who take responsibility and get involved.
You''ll have the opportunity to manage a broad mix of small works, refurbishment, maintenance and improvement projects across commercial and public-sector environments. The variety of work means you''ll need to be adaptable, commercially aware and comfortable balancing client expectations with the practical demands of project delivery.
Our client is looking for someone who can make the role their own, build trust with clients and help ensure projects run smoothly from start to finish.
The team has a energetic feel, with a collaborative approach and a focus on delivering quality work. For the right person, this is an opportunity to join a well-established business where your organisation, decision-making and ability to get things done will make a real difference.
Salary is £60,000 plus package
