The Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and manufacturing business in the Chorley area who are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on design engineer who enjoys working on bespoke engineered products, complex mechanical assemblies and equipment that is manufactured in-house. The successful candidate will play a senior role within the engineering team, taking projects from initial concept and design through to manufacture, while working closely with production, customers and other technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
• Take mechanical designs from initial concept through to manufacture.
• Design bespoke components, equipment and mechanical assemblies.
• Produce accurate 2D engineering and fabrication drawings.
• Carry out engineering calculations and support design verification.
• Ensure designs consider manufacturability, materials, tolerances and cost.
• Work closely with CNC machining, fabrication and manufacturing teams.
• Review existing designs and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Produce and maintain BOMs and associated technical documentation.
• Liaise with customers and suppliers on technical requirements.
• Provide technical support and guidance to other engineers.
• Ensure designs meet relevant engineering, quality and safety requirements.

What We''re Looking For

• Previous experience as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer or Project Design Engineer.
• Strong background within manufacturing, machinery, precision engineering or bespoke engineered products.
• Strong 3D CAD capability.
• Good understanding of machined components, fabrications and manufacturing drawings.
• Ability to design with manufacture and assembly in mind.
• Comfortable taking ownership of projects rather than working solely on individual CAD tasks.
• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience within Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience within regulated or technically demanding sectors such as nuclear, defence, aerospace or similar engineering environments would be advantageous.
