Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking a compassionate, patient and resilient Mental Health Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist education setting in the Corby area.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with their mental health and emotional wellbeing. You will be working with pupils who may experience anxiety, emotional difficulties, behavioural challenges or other barriers to learning, helping them feel safe, supported and ready to engage with education.

We are looking for someone who can build strong relationships, offer consistent support and make a genuine difference to the lives of vulnerable young people.

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils experiencing mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties.

• Help students understand and manage their emotions, developing positive coping strategies.

• Build trusting relationships and provide a consistent source of encouragement and support.

• Recognise signs of emotional distress and respond calmly and appropriately.

• Support pupils with anxiety, low confidence, emotional regulation and challenging behaviour.

• Encourage engagement in lessons and help students overcome barriers to learning.

• Promote positive relationships, independence and resilience.

• Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and other professionals to support individual pupil needs.

• Help maintain a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience supporting children or young people with mental health, SEMH or emotional wellbeing needs.

• Has a genuine understanding of the challenges that can affect young people''s mental health.

• Is empathetic, patient and confident supporting pupils through difficult situations.

• Can remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging behaviour or emotional distress.

• Is confident building positive relationships with vulnerable young people.

• Understands the importance of professional boundaries and a trauma-informed approach.

• Is resilient, adaptable and passionate about helping young people reach their potential.

Experience within a school, specialist SEMH provision, mental health service, residential childcare, youth work or a similar support setting would be particularly beneficial.
