Excellent Opportunity for Psychology Graduates | Term Time Only

Are you a Psychology graduate looking for your first opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with children and young people?

Are you considering a future career in Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Child Mental Health, Occupational Therapy or Speech and Language Therapy?

Would you like to gain practical experience in a specialist school while developing the skills, confidence and resilience needed for a career supporting individuals with additional needs?

Aspire People are recruiting Psychology Graduates for SEN Teaching Assistant positions at a specialist school in the Royston and Meldreth area.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience working with children and young people aged 6-19 with Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, communication needs and SEMH needs.

A Fantastic First Step Towards Your Future Career
Your Psychology degree has given you an understanding of human behaviour, development and psychological theory. This role gives you the opportunity to see how those principles translate into everyday practice.

You will work alongside experienced teachers, therapists and support staff, gaining exposure to specialist education, behaviour support, communication strategies and emotional development.

Whether you are planning postgraduate study or exploring different career pathways, this experience could be an important step towards your ambitions.

We Need Resilient, Determined and Compassionate Graduates
Whilst previous SEN experience is not essential, the right personality and attitude are absolutely vital.

Working in a specialist school can be challenging. Pupils may experience difficulties with communication, emotional regulation, transitions and behaviour. You will need to demonstrate resilience, patience and the ability to adapt your approach to different situations.

We are particularly keen to hear from graduates who:

Can remain calm, composed and professional in challenging situations.
Have the emotional resilience to cope with demanding days.
Understand that building relationships and achieving progress takes time.
Can remain patient and positive when faced with setbacks.
Are confident following guidance and implementing consistent support strategies.
Can demonstrate empathy while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Are committed to helping young people develop their confidence and independence.
This is not simply a classroom-based role. You will need to be hands-on, proactive and prepared to get involved in all aspects of supporting pupils, including personal care where required.

Your Responsibilities
Supporting pupils with classroom learning and individual targets.
Developing positive relationships and encouraging engagement.
Supporting communication, social skills and independence.
Helping pupils manage emotions and develop positive behaviours.
Delivering individual and small-group interventions.
Supporting pupils with additional learning and communication needs.
Working closely with teaching staff and external professionals.
Creating a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.

What Are the Requirements?
Degree in Psychology or a closely related discipline.
GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent (essential).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
Patience, flexibility and emotional resilience.
A positive attitude and willingness to undertake training.
Graduates without previous SEN experience are encouraged to apply. Experience in childcare, education, care work, youth work or volunteering would be advantageous.
