Job Title: Estimator - M&E / Telecoms (Rail)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Estimator with an M&E / Telecoms background and previous rail sector experience to join our team in Coventry with an immediate start available.
This role will focus on preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for rail infrastructure projects, particularly across M&E and telecoms systems, supporting tender submissions and project planning. You will work closely with delivery teams, supply chain partners, and commercial staff to ensure robust pricing and technical compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for rail-related M&E and telecoms works
• Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to determine project scope and requirements
• Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Build up rates for labour, plant, materials, and subcontract packages
• Identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering options during the estimating process
• Liaise with engineering, commercial, and project delivery teams to ensure accurate cost modelling
• Support bid strategy, tender clarifications, and client queries
• Maintain accurate cost databases and estimating records

Requirements

• Proven experience as an Estimator within the rail sector
• Strong background in M&E and/or telecoms systems (rail comms, fibre, signalling support systems, power, etc.)
• Experience pricing works under rail standards and frameworks
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
• Proficiency in estimating software and Excel
• Excellent communication and organisational skills

Desirable

• Experience working on major UK rail infrastructure projects
• Knowledge of rail telecoms systems (fibre networks, station comms, CCTV, PA, etc.)
• Degree or qualification in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline
• Membership of a relevant professional body

Rate
£400 - £450 per day, depending on experience.
