Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake comprehensive functional and specialist occupational therapy assessments in line with the Care Act 2014.

  • Assess individuals with complex needs, progressive conditions and changing circumstances.

  • Identify appropriate equipment, adaptations and practical solutions to support independence and daily living.

  • Undertake specialist assessments, including seating, moving and handling and major adaptations.

  • Assess and manage risks while balancing individuals' rights, choices and wellbeing.

  • Work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers and multidisciplinary professionals to achieve agreed outcomes.

  • Support people to remain safely and independently in their own homes wherever possible.

  • Provide professional advice, guidance and specialist recommendations to colleagues and partner agencies.

  • Maintain accurate case records, assessments, reports and other relevant documentation.

  • Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.

  • Support and mentor junior staff, students, assistants and newly qualified Occupational Therapists.

  • Provide clinical supervision, guidance and professional development support where required.

  • Manage and prioritise a complex workload, ensuring assessments and reviews are completed within appropriate timescales.

  • Contribute to service development, partnership working and continuous improvement.

Essential Qualifications and Registration
  • Degree-level qualification in Occupational Therapy.

  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).

  • Willingness to undertake relevant post-qualifying training.

  • Willingness to complete the Practice Placement Educators Award, if not already held.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Experience arranging specialist equipment and major adaptations.

  • Experience working with people with a wide range of physical, cognitive and complex needs.

  • Experience supporting individuals with progressive conditions and their families and carers.

  • Experience undertaking moving and handling, seating and major adaptations assessments.

  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams.

  • Strong assessment, analytical, problem-solving and risk management skills.

  • Excellent verbal, written and non-verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with people with cognitive, visual, hearing or speech-related needs.

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.

  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and confidentiality requirements.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and maintain accurate electronic records.

  • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and person-centred practice.

Desirable Experience and Qualifications
  • Postgraduate qualification, such as a Master's in Occupational Therapy or a related subject.

  • Experience working within a local authority setting.

  • Additional training in manual handling or Moving with Dignity.

  • Experience delivering specialist training or supporting practice education.

  • Blue Badge assessment training and knowledge of Department for Transport guidance.

Working Arrangements
  • Hybrid working with flexibility to meet service requirements.

  • Travel across the borough and work from different locations as required.

  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends in response to service needs.
