Injection Mould Setter / Operator
Injection Mould Setter
Leicester | £40,000–£45,000 | Three-Shift Rotation
Precision Moulding | Engineering Polymers | On-Site Toolroom
An opportunity for an experienced Injection Mould Setter to work with technically demanding components, specialist materials and processes where accurate setting makes a measurable difference.
5S Recruitment is supporting an established precision injection moulding manufacturer with the appointment of an Injection Mould Setter at its Leicester operation.
The business manufactures technical components for demanding electrical, automotive, medical and alternative-energy applications. Its capabilities include precision and micro-moulding, supported by an on-site Toolroom and experience processing high-performance engineering polymers.
The Opportunity
This position offers practical involvement in mould changes, process start-ups, troubleshooting and production improvement.
You will work with glass-filled, flame-retardant and other engineering thermoplastics, where material preparation, temperature control and repeatable processing are essential to achieving consistent quality.
Working across a three-shift rotation, you will help establish stable processes, resolve moulding problems and hand over machines that are ready to run reliably.
Key Responsibilities
-
Complete mould changes safely, efficiently and in line with production requirements.
-
Set injection moulding machines, robots and associated ancillary equipment.
-
Start up production using approved setting sheets, process documentation and quality requirements.
-
Establish and adjust temperatures, pressures, speeds and cycle times within authorised process limits.
-
Prepare and process engineering polymers, including glass-filled and flame-retardant materials.
-
Complete material and colour changes while controlling contamination and avoidable waste.
-
Diagnose moulding defects and process instability, addressing the underlying cause.
-
Set and monitor dryers, temperature-control units and other supporting equipment.
-
Complete first-off checks before releasing production.
-
Monitor component quality, scrap, cycle consistency and machine performance.
-
Work with Production, Quality, Maintenance and Toolroom colleagues to resolve technical issues.
-
Maintain accurate setting records, clear shift handovers and high standards of safety and housekeeping.
Your Experience
You will have practical experience setting plastic injection moulding machines and the confidence to complete mould changes and process start-ups independently.
We are looking for:
-
Sound injection moulding process knowledge and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
-
Experience identifying and correcting common moulding defects.
-
An understanding of engineering thermoplastics and the importance of correct material preparation.
-
Experience setting robots and moulding ancillary equipment.
-
The ability to work accurately with technical components and controlled production processes.
-
Clear communication, reliable documentation and a collaborative approach.
-
Willingness to work across the established three-shift system.
Experience with Arburg machinery, precision or micro-moulding, glass-filled polymers or flame-retardant materials would be particularly valuable. Automotive or medical manufacturing experience would also be advantageous.
Relevant injection moulding qualifications or industry training would support your application, alongside demonstrable practical setting ability.
Why Consider This Role?
-
£40,000–£45,000, depending on experience.
-
An established precision manufacturing operation.
-
Technically demanding components and specialist engineering materials.
-
Precision and micro-moulding capability.
-
Direct access to on-site tooling expertise.
-
Scope to improve process stability, quality and manufacturing efficiency.
Who This Will Suit
You take pride in the quality of a setup and understand how material, tooling, machinery and processing conditions work together.
You enjoy investigating a difficult moulding problem, making controlled adjustments and checking that the result remains consistent. You can work independently, recognise when specialist support is needed and communicate effectively with the people taking over your machines.
For an experienced Injection Mould Setter seeking technically varied work and the opportunity to develop within precision manufacturing, this is a position worth discussing.
