Responsibilities and duties of the Health and Safety Manager role

Reporting to the Project Director you will:

• Provide leadership and accountability for health, safety and wellbeing performance across the project.
• Establish and promote best practice in safety, health and sustainability across all site activities.
• Advise and support Directors, Managers and Supervisors in fulfilling their health and safety responsibilities in line with legislation and company procedures.
• Ensure management controls and processes are in place so personnel understand their statutory duties.
• Work closely with site management teams to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
• Conduct site inspections, audits and surveillance activities to monitor safe working practices and recommend improvements.
• Lead and support accident and incident investigations, analysing data and implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
• Manage and review health and safety performance data, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Develop and deliver health and safety campaigns, lessons learned sessions and improvement initiatives.
• Support the preparation and review of health and safety plans, procedures and method statements, including those from third-party contractors.
• Maintain records and documentation to ensure compliance with legislation, company procedures and contract requirements.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• IOSH qualification and current professional membership.
• SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
• Demonstrated experience in a Health & Safety leadership role, ideally within construction, engineering, or major infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, compliance standards, and safety management systems.
