Junior Network Engineers play a vital role by assisting in implementing, maintaining, and supporting our client’s network infrastructure. They are part of a Network Engineering team responsible for supporting and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures (such as 24x7x365) that meet business objectives and SLAs or break-fix agreements. Engineers must be willing to work unsociable hours, weekends as required, and participate in an on-call rota.Key Responsibilities
Support the network break-fix team in configuration and maintenance of network equipmentCarry out data cable installation and maintenance requirementsInstall containment systemsRead and interpret CAD drawings, technical designs, and work to programme schedulesPossess a full driving licence (desirable)Requirements
Understand the fundamentals of Networking and the OSI modelUnderstand issues involved in administering and maintaining corporate WAN/LANAssist with basic troubleshooting, backup, and archivingHelp maximize network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshootingReport network status, risks, issues, constraints, and dependencies to line managers and stakeholdersEscort third parties during access and reporting responsibilitiesAssist in network maintenance and system upgrades, including service packs, patches, and security configurationsWork within timescales specified in SLAs, often under pressure due to limited maintenance windowsLiaise with vendors and IT personnel for problem resolutionMaintain up-to-date network documentation (Stock Register)Assist in producing work documents and conducting site surveys with detailed reportingCommunicate key action points and reports to program managersStay informed on relevant HandS legislation and apply it in daily work, including customer requirementsWork neatly and ensure sites are left clean from waste after shiftsDrive company van, including collection and delivery of materials between HO and sitesFollow ECS/Sentinel scheme rules as an individual card holder/Lead Engineer/SPCTake reasonable care of oneself and others affected by acts or omissions at workCare for tools, PPE, and other company equipmentCooperate with the employer to ensure legal complianceAttend Engineers’ Meetings as required
