Our Water and Utilities client is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a growing team delivering water mains renewal and infrastructure projects across the Thames Water network on a permanent basis out of Maple Cross offices (Rickmansworth)

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven professional to play a key role in the successful delivery of essential water infrastructure projects throughout London and the surrounding areas.

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for driving commercial performance across a portfolio of capital works projects, ensuring robust cost management, accurate forecasting, effective contract administration, and proactive risk management. Working closely with operational teams, clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders, you will help maximise value while supporting the successful delivery of projects safely, on time, and within budget.

Responsibilities

• Lead the commercial and cost management of water mains renewal projects across the Thames Water framework.
• Manage project budgets, cost reporting, forecasting, and cash flow.
• Provide commercial and contractual support to operational teams.
• Administer and manage NEC contracts, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
• Identify opportunities to improve project profitability and commercial performance.
• Prepare and review valuations, applications for payment, compensation events, and final accounts.
• Monitor project costs and manage change control processes.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
• Support procurement activities and subcontract management.
• Produce accurate monthly commercial reports and forecasts for senior management.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and commercial best practice throughout project delivery.

Skills Experience/qualifications

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within the construction, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.
• Previous experience working on water, utilities, civil engineering, or pipeline projects.
• Strong understanding and practical application of NEC contracts.
• Excellent commercial awareness and contract management skills.
• Experience managing project costs, forecasting, and commercial reporting.
• Strong stakeholder and client management capabilities.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience working on Thames Water or other regulated utility frameworks.
• Knowledge of water mains replacement, rehabilitation, or renewal programmes.
• Membership of RICS, ICES, or another relevant professional body.
• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Professional membership or progression toward chartered status is desirable.
