Principal Account Manager



Location: Hitchin

Hours: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)

We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Principal Account Manager to join the sales team. You will be responsible for driving the profitable growth of existing customer accounts while delivering excellent customer service throughout the sales lifecycle, from quotation and contract review through to order fulfilment.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Account Manager or Sales professional with a strong technical background, ideally within electrical engineering or manufacturing. Working closely with the Head of Sales, you will also play an important role in developing the Account Management team and supporting long-term sales growth.

• Manage and grow existing customer accounts, identifying opportunities to increase revenue and profitability
• Take the lead in processing requests for quotations and quote submissions for existing and new business opportunities
• Follow up quotations with customers to maximise sales opportunities
• Manage the contract review process, ensuring new orders are reviewed and processed efficiently
• Liaise with procurement, manufacturing, and internal stakeholders to ensure customer delivery expectations are achieved
• Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key customer contacts
• Regularly meet with existing customers to conduct business reviews and identify new opportunities
• Develop and maintain long-term customer relationships
• Monitor sales objectives and targets, working towards achieving or exceeding them
• Produce and maintain accurate sales reports
• Support the Head of Sales in developing and implementing sales strategies for long-term profitable customer growth
• Assist with the day-to-day management, development, and mentoring of the Account Management team
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities
• Work collaboratively with customers, suppliers, and internal teams
• Provide commercially focused solutions to meet customer needs
• Remain motivated and focused when faced with challenges

• Proven experience in account management or sales, preferably within electrical engineering or manufacturing

• Strong technical understanding within a manufacturing or engineering environment
• Demonstrable success in achieving or exceeding sales targets
• Experience developing and maintaining long-term client relationships
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of contract equipment manufacturing
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to make sound commercial and business decisions
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other PC applications
• Ability to build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
• Self-motivated with the drive to pursue new opportunities and engage new clients
• Full UK driving licence
• Willingness and ability to travel within the local area as required
