Your New CompanyHays Accountancy & Finance is delighted to be working with an established and successful business based in the Mallusk area in the recruitment of a Senior Assistant Accountant on a 15-18-month fixed-term contract.This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established organisation with operations across Ireland. You will become part of a supportive finance function and work closely with senior finance leadership, gaining broad exposure across financial accounting, month-end reporting and financial controls.Your New RoleReporting directly to the Finance Director, you will take responsibility for a broad range of accounting duties, with a particular focus on ensuring an accurate and efficient month-end close.A key element of the position will be taking the monthly accounts through to Trial Balance, making this an ideal opportunity for an experienced Assistant Accountant, Accounting Technician or part-qualified accountant looking for a role with genuine ownership and autonomy.Your key responsibilities will include:

• Preparing monthly accounts through to Trial Balance
• Maintaining the general ledger and ensuring transactions are accurately recorded
• Preparing and posting journals, accruals and prepayments
• Completing balance sheet and bank reconciliations
• Maintaining fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
• Reviewing purchase and sales ledger information
• Posting payroll journals and reconciling associated control accounts
• Preparing VAT returns and supporting reconciliations
• Investigating and resolving accounting discrepancies
• Supporting month-end and year-end reporting requirements
• Assisting with external audit queries and documentation
• Providing financial information and analysis to support management
• Contributing to improvements in financial processes, controls and reporting

This role does not carry staff management responsibility and will suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of their own workload.What You''ll Need to SucceedYou will be an experienced and proactive accounting professional with strong technical knowledge and the confidence to manage month-end responsibilities with minimal supervision.Ideally, you will be AAT qualified, part-qualified ACCA/CIMA, qualified by experience (QBE), or have equivalent practical accounting experience.You should also have:

• Previous experience preparing accounts to Trial Balance
• Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
• Hands-on experience with accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
• Good knowledge of month-end accounting processes
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, ideally including Pivot Tables and XLOOKUP
• Experience using Sage or a similar accounting package
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• The ability to manage deadlines independently

Experience with VAT returns, payroll reconciliations, job costing or audit preparation would be advantageous but is not essential.What You''ll Get in ReturnYou will receive a competitive salary of -30,00038,000 depending on experience, alongside a strong benefits package including:
