Plant Fitter / Field Service Engineer - Cornwall

Starting Salary -1617.50 per hour DOE + Overtime at 1.5x | Company Van, Laptop & Phone | Monday-Friday

Are you a Workshop Plant Fitter or Agricultural Engineer ready to take the next step in your career and get out on the road?

Alecto Recruitment is working with an established business within the construction plant industry to recruit a Plant Fitter / Field Service Engineer based in Cornwall.

This is an excellent opportunity for a workshop-based engineer looking to make the move into a mobile role, gain valuable field service experience and develop their skills with leading plant manufacturers.

As a main dealer for Takeuchi Mini Excavators, Thwaites Dumpers, Bomag Compaction, Atlas Copco and Epiroc, the company offers a varied workload, excellent manufacturer training and the opportunity to build your experience working on some of the industry''s leading equipment.

The hourly rate starts at -16 - -17.50 depending on experience, making this a great opportunity for someone looking to get their foot in the door of field service engineering, with overtime paid at 1.5x and a company van, laptop and phone provided.

You don''t need to be an experienced mobile engineer to be considered. If you''ve got a solid mechanical background, enjoy fault-finding and repairing machinery, and are ready to take your skills out on the road, this could be the ideal next step.

What''s on Offer?

  • Starting rate of -15.5017.50 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Overtime paid at 1.5x your standard hourly rate.
  • Company van, laptop and mobile phone provided.
  • Monday to Friday, 42.5 hours per week.
  • Permanent, full-time position.
  • Manufacturer training to develop your technical knowledge.
  • Opportunity to work with leading brands, including Takeuchi, Thwaites, Bomag, Atlas Copco and Epiroc.
  • A route into field service engineering for workshop-based mechanics looking to progress.
  • Working hours starting and finishing from home when travelling directly to customer sites, or from the depot when travelling there.

The Role

You''ll be responsible for servicing, maintaining and repairing the company''s hire fleet, alongside carrying out customer repairs and warranty work.

You''ll benefit from a varied role, working on different types of construction plant machinery while developing your diagnostic skills and gaining experience in a field-based environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Servicing and maintaining construction plant machinery.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
  • Carrying out repairs and warranty work on customer equipment.
  • Working on machinery from leading manufacturers.
  • Supporting depot teams and customers to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Liaising with manufacturers when required to resolve technical issues.
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely and to the required standards.

What We''re Looking For

We''re particularly interested in speaking with engineers who have a good mechanical foundation and are keen to transition into a mobile engineering role.

You could be working in a workshop, agricultural machinery, tool hire or a related mechanical environment and looking for the opportunity to develop your career.

Ideally, you''ll have:

  • Experience servicing and repairing mechanical equipment, plant or machinery.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
  • Some experience with pneumatic and electrical systems.
  • Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Your own tools.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with customers, depot teams and manufacturers.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • An NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Plant Maintenance, preferably, although this is not essential.

Why consider the move?

If you''re currently workshop-based, this is an opportunity to take the next step without needing years of previous field service experience. You''ll receive manufacturer training, have a company van and equipment provided, and develop your skills while working directly with customers and a varied range of machinery.

The company has successfully brought engineers across from tool hire and agricultural backgrounds before, so transferable mechanical experience and the right attitude are just as important as having an established mobile engineering background.
