Job Description
The Senior Technical Manager is a strategic and hands-on role, responsible for leading all technical services across the National Centre for Circus Arts.You’ll ensure the safe, efficient, and innovative use of our spaces, equipment and teams. Working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, you’ll manage infrastructure planning, studio operations, health and safety, and production delivery. The role leads on rigging compliance, equipment lifecycles, and capital projects, while also line-managing our Technical Manager and supporting a freelance team.This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of circus training and performance at one of Europe’s leading circus organisations. You’ll bring expertise in rigging, production, and technical operations, with a deep commitment to safety, planning, and inclusive working.Job Requirements
Experience in a senior technical/production role in live performance, circus, or theatreStrong knowledge of rigging and working at heightExperience managing people, budgets, and safety systemsConfidence with technical equipment (lighting, sound, AV) and systems like AutoCAD and QLabExcellent planning and communication skillsA hands-on approach and a passion for safety, collaboration and problem-solvingProfessional qualifications (e.g. ABTT Gold, IOSH, NEBOSH) are welcome but not essential.Job Responsibilities
Lead technical operations across training, productions, and eventsOversee all rigging and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with LOLER/PUWERManage the use and maintenance of studio spaces, technical equipment, and storesWork closely with senior leadership on planning and capital improvementsDevelop risk assessments, method statements, and safety systemsLine-manage technical staff and oversee freelancersLead on budgeting, procurement, and equipment registersRepresent technical interests in cross-departmental planning and external partnershipsAct as Production Manager for in-house and visiting shows as neededContact for more info : recruitment@nationalcircus.org.ukGet
