The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Senior Engineer looking for an exciting opportunity to work on a major infrastructure project in the Scottish Highlands and Islands?

We are working with an established Scottish civil engineering contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Engineer to join their team on a major energy infrastructure development based in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis.

This is an excellent opportunity to become involved in a significant long-term project, supporting the development of critical infrastructure that will help strengthen Scotland''s electricity network and facilitate the continued growth of renewable energy.

Working as part of an experienced project team, you will play an important role in the technical delivery of the works, taking responsibility for engineering activities, coordinating site operations and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standards.

About the Project

The project forms part of a major investment in Scotland''s electricity transmission infrastructure, involving the development of a new high-voltage converter station, substation and associated infrastructure on the Isle of Lewis.

The development will play a vital role in connecting renewable energy generated across the Western Isles to the mainland electricity network, supporting the UK''s wider transition towards cleaner energy.

The initial civil engineering works involve substantial earthworks, site preparation and the formation of development platforms, alongside associated infrastructure and enabling works.

This represents a significant infrastructure undertaking, offering the opportunity to gain experience on a major energy project with an important role in Scotland''s future energy network.

The Role

As Senior Engineer, you will take responsibility for overseeing the technical and engineering aspects of the project, working closely with the Project Manager, Site Management team and wider workforce to ensure successful delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing earthworks, groundworks, drainage and associated civil engineering operations.

  • Reviewing technical drawings, identifying design issues and coordinating solutions with the design team.

  • Ensuring accurate completion of quality assurance documentation, as-built records and site reports.

  • Supporting the preparation and implementation of RAMS and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.

  • Monitoring progress against programme and working closely with site management to maintain delivery targets.

  • Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders.

About You

We are keen to speak with experienced Senior Engineers who have a strong background in civil engineering and a proven track record of delivering projects within a contracting environment.

Experience across infrastructure, energy, heavy civils or groundworks would be particularly relevant, although we would also welcome applications from individuals with a broader civil engineering background.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Previous experience working as a Senior Engineer or in a similar engineering position.

  • A strong understanding of civil engineering construction methods and site engineering processes.

  • Experience with setting out, surveying and technical engineering responsibilities.

  • The ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Experience managing quality assurance and health and safety documentation.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate site teams and subcontractors.

  • A relevant Civil Engineering qualification, such as an HNC, HND or Degree.

Salary & Benefits

The successful candidate will receive an attractive package, including:

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience.

  • Car allowance or company vehicle provided.

  • Generous bonus scheme.

  • Opportunity to work on a major long-term energy infrastructure project.

  • Career development opportunities within an established civil engineering contractor.
