About the Role

Senior Temporary Works Design Engineer will lead the design and technical delivery of temporary works solutions across demolition, enabling works, groundworks and reinforced concrete structures projects. This permanent Central London position offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex engineering challenges while supporting project delivery teams and ensuring designs remain safe, practical, compliant and commercially appropriate.

Our client is a specialist enabling works contractor operating primarily as principal contractor across Central London. Their expertise includes demolition and dismantling, temporary works, façade retention, structural alterations and substructure packages, with project values reaching £30M and turnover exceeding £150M.

What You Will Do

The Senior Temporary Works Design Engineer will be responsible for the technical leadership and delivery of temporary works designs across multiple projects.

• Develop temporary works designs, calculations, drawings and specifications from concept through detailed design.
• Lead designs for demolition stability, façade retention, propping, excavations, crane bases and temporary support structures.
• Coordinate temporary works interfaces with permanent works, logistics strategies and construction sequencing programmes.
• Undertake site inspections, technical audits and design reviews to verify compliance with approved engineering solutions.
• Review specialist contractor and supplier proposals, identifying design risks, clashes and required amendments.
• Mentor engineers, technicians and graduates while maintaining technical standards and design quality across projects.

What You Bring (Essential)

• Experience as a Senior Temporary Works Design Engineer delivering complex demolition, civil engineering or specialist contractor projects.
• Hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of BS 5975, CDM Regulations, Eurocodes and relevant British Standards.
• Produce and check structural calculations, technical reports and temporary works design packages.
• Use structural analysis software, engineering design tools and CAD or BIM platforms.
• Coordinate effectively with Temporary Works Coordinators, contractors and multidisciplinary project delivery teams.

Desirable

• Hold Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status, or be working towards professional registration.
• Deliver temporary works designs for reinforced concrete structures and enabling works projects.
• Carry out independent design checks, technical reviews and engineering approvals.
• Support technically challenging projects within constrained urban construction environments.
