School Facilities Manager
Location: East London
Contract: Initial 3-month temporary contract with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday, 6:30am to 2:30pm
About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced and proactive School Facilities Manager to join a welcoming primary school in East London. The school has approximately 330 pupils and is housed within a refurbished Victorian building. Due to the immediate requirement, we are looking for an individual who can quickly integrate into the role and confidently manage the site with minimal handover.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced facilities professional who thrives in an educational environment and takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure, and well-presented school estate.
Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day management and maintenance of the school premises.
  • Ensure the site remains safe, secure, compliant, and operational at all times.
  • Open and lock the school site as required.
  • Manage planned and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors, ensuring work is completed to the required standards.
  • Monitor and maintain statutory compliance records, including:
    • Fire Safety
    • Legionella Management
    • Asbestos Management
    • PAT Testing
    • Health andamp; Safety Compliance
  • Carry out regular site inspections and risk assessments.
  • Support and manage cleaning and site staff.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance issues and emergency situations.
  • Ensure the school grounds and buildings are maintained to a high standard.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Facilities Manager, Premises Manager, Site Manager, or School Facilities Manager.
  • Previous experience working within a school or educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing contractors and maintenance schedules.
  • Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) certificate or willingness to obtain one immediately.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Reliable, professional, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
