Preceptorship Clinical Support Midwife

The individual in this role will divide their time equally between two key responsibilities: providing clinical support to newly qualified midwives and developing educational opportunities for maternity assistants (MAs) and maternity support workers (MSWs) in alignment with the Health Education England (HEE) framework.Preceptorship Lead
The post holder will be responsible for supporting newly qualified midwives to achieve clinical competencies, ensuring evidence-based and safe practice. This involves reviewing existing training and developing tailored, role-specific programs to meet the learning needs of MAs and MSWs, including creating orientation packs for clinical areas.A core aim is to support workforce retention and development through ongoing training and career progression pathways, including implementing the apprenticeship pathway for MAs progressing to Band 3. The post holder will work closely with Practice Development Midwives (PDMs) and Clinical Practice Facilitators (CPFs) to deliver coordinated training, education, and recruitment activities.Lead support for newly qualified and internationally recruited midwives, collaborating with practice education and senior management teams.Facilitate and deliver a preceptorship program in collaboration with the Capital Midwife preceptorship program, liaising with multidisciplinary colleagues.Support the practice education team and senior management to promote lifelong learning for maternity staff.Review mandatory training and develop bespoke programs for MAs and MSWs.Support retention and ongoing development of the MA/MSW workforce.Provide mentorship, coaching, supervision, and shadowing opportunities for professional growth.This secondment opportunity is initially until 1st June 2026, subject to revision based on circumstances.Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provides hospital and community services across Croydon, serving a diverse population of over 360,000.
