The Role

As a Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for developing structural designs, models and technical documentation to support the delivery of commercial marine and shipbuilding projects. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs are safe, practical, cost-effective and suitable for manufacture and installation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed structural models and engineering designs.
• Produce structural drawings, manufacturing information and technical documentation.
• Undertake modelling and drafting of marine structures, including bulkheads, decks and supporting arrangements.
• Carry out shell modelling and structural detailing activities.
• Support production engineering and nesting activities.
• Perform structural assessments and calculations to support project requirements.
• Contribute to lifting, handling and turning studies for large structural assemblies, modules and marine structures.
• Develop lifting arrangements and installation methodologies.
• Assess structural load paths and temporary load cases associated with lifting, transportation and turning operations.
• Liaise with production, fabrication and project teams to ensure designs are suitable for construction and assembly.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Skills & Experience

We would be particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have experience in:

• Structural design within marine, shipbuilding, offshore, energy or heavy engineering sectors.
• Structural modelling and drafting of steel structures.
• Bulkhead, deck and shell modelling.
• Marine structural detailing and production support.
• Nesting and manufacturing engineering activities.
• Lifting and turning assessments for large fabricated structures.
• Development of lifting plans, transportation methodologies and installation strategies.
• Understanding of temporary load cases and structural behaviour during transportation and installation.
• Production of detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Software Experience

Experience with any of the following software packages would be advantageous:

• Siemens NX
• FORAN
• SSI ShipConstructor
• PTC Windchill
• AutoCAD
• Microsoft Office Suite

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience working within commercial shipbuilding or marine engineering environments.
• Experience supporting vessel construction, module fabrication or large steel structure assembly.
• Familiarity with marine classification society requirements and marine industry standards.
• Experience supporting heavy lift, transportation or installation activities.
