Secondary School Maths Teacher

Position Overview:
A secondary school mathematics teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, challenging, and high-quality mathematics instruction to students typically aged 11–18 (Key Stage 3–5 in the UK, or grades 6–12 elsewhere). They support students in developing strong numerical, algebraic, and problem-solving skills, preparing them for exams and real-world applications.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Planning & Teaching

    • Prepare and deliver lessons that meet curriculum standards.

    • Use a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles.

    • Integrate technology and resources (whiteboards, software, manipulatives) into lessons.

  2. Assessment & Feedback

    • Set homework, assignments, and tests to monitor progress.

    • Provide constructive feedback to students.

    • Track student performance and identify areas for improvement.

  3. Classroom Management

    • Maintain a positive, supportive, and disciplined classroom environment.

    • Encourage student participation and engagement.

    • Adapt teaching approaches for students with additional needs.

  4. Professional Development

    • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development.

    • Stay up-to-date with curriculum changes and best practices.

    • Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching methods.

  5. Student Support

    • Offer guidance on learning strategies and study skills.

    • Support students preparing for exams (e.g., GCSE, A-Level, or equivalent).

    • Promote a love of mathematics and critical thinking skills.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.

    • Teaching certification (e.g., PGCE in the UK, state certification in the US).

  • Desirable Skills:

    • Strong subject knowledge across all areas of secondary mathematics.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to motivate and inspire students.

    • Familiarity with exam board requirements (GCSE, A-Level, IB, etc.).

    • Proficiency with digital learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Moodle).
