Secondary School Maths Teacher
Position Overview:
A secondary school mathematics teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, challenging, and high-quality mathematics instruction to students typically aged 11–18 (Key Stage 3–5 in the UK, or grades 6–12 elsewhere). They support students in developing strong numerical, algebraic, and problem-solving skills, preparing them for exams and real-world applications.
Planning & Teaching
Prepare and deliver lessons that meet curriculum standards.
Use a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles.
Integrate technology and resources (whiteboards, software, manipulatives) into lessons.
Assessment & Feedback
Set homework, assignments, and tests to monitor progress.
Provide constructive feedback to students.
Track student performance and identify areas for improvement.
Classroom Management
Maintain a positive, supportive, and disciplined classroom environment.
Encourage student participation and engagement.
Adapt teaching approaches for students with additional needs.
Professional Development
Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development.
Stay up-to-date with curriculum changes and best practices.
Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching methods.
Student Support
Offer guidance on learning strategies and study skills.
Support students preparing for exams (e.g., GCSE, A-Level, or equivalent).
Promote a love of mathematics and critical thinking skills.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
Teaching certification (e.g., PGCE in the UK, state certification in the US).
Desirable Skills:
Strong subject knowledge across all areas of secondary mathematics.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire students.
Familiarity with exam board requirements (GCSE, A-Level, IB, etc.).
Proficiency with digital learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Moodle).
