3D Machine Controls & Modelling Specialist



Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced 3D Machine Controls & Modelling Specialist to support the delivery of HS2. Working across nationally significant schemes including large-scale transportation, energy and civil engineering projects, you will play a key role in managing machine control technology, survey control systems, GNSS equipment and digital engineering models to ensure the efficient and accurate delivery of earthworks operations.

Working closely with site engineers, surveyors, project teams and plant operators, you will be responsible for driving productivity, accuracy and innovation through the effective implementation of machine control and digital engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain 3D machine control systems across a fleet of earthmoving plant.
• Configure, calibrate and validate machine control equipment to ensure accuracy and performance.
• Create, convert and upload 3D design models into machine control software platforms.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for machine control hardware and software.
• Establish and maintain survey control networks across multiple project locations.
• Set up and manage GNSS base stations and site positioning systems.
• Collaborate with engineering and surveying teams to ensure successful implementation of design data.
• Produce earthworks volume calculations, material movement reports and progress tracking information.
• Generate as-built survey records, verification reports and earthworks reconciliation documentation.
• Deliver training and ongoing support to plant operators and site teams.
• Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with health, safety and environmental requirements.

Candidate Requirements



Essential

• Previous experience within machine control, surveying, earthworks or civil engineering environments.
• Strong knowledge of Trimble Earthworks machine control systems.
• Experience using GNSS and Total Station surveying equipment.
• Proven ability to create, manage and modify 3D machine control models.
• Strong understanding of earthworks operations, bulk excavation and material management.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and digital design information.
• Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to support engineers, surveyors and plant operators.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Willingness to travel between project locations as required.

Desirable

• Experience using Trimble Business Centre (TBC) or similar modelling software.
• Background in large-scale infrastructure, highways, rail, energy or major earthworks projects.
• Experience producing as-built surveys and earthworks progress reporting.
