Senior Quantity Surveyor
A senior commercial role where you can genuinely make an impact Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager looking for a role where you’re more than just a number on a project team?
This is an opportunity to join a well-established, family-owned main contractor with a strong reputation across the South West. Based in Gloucester, the business has built its success on delivering quality projects, developing long-term client relationships and consistently doing what it says it will do.
With a close-knit team of around 30 people, this is a business where senior people have a genuine voice. Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, you’ll take ownership of a portfolio of projects and have real influence over their commercial performance.
The business The company delivers projects predominantly across the residential, healthcare and student accommodation sectors, with typical project values ranging from £1m to £11m.
Most projects are delivered on a design & build basis, with the business also providing a full turnkey service – from land acquisition and planning through to construction and handover.
It also holds places on established public sector frameworks, providing a strong and secure forward order book.
The opportunity As Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager, you’ll report directly to the Commercial Director and take commercial responsibility for a number of live projects, from pre-contract through to final account.
This isn''t a role where you''ll simply manage spreadsheets from the sidelines. You''ll be hands-on across procurement, cost management, contract administration, client relationships and commercial strategy, with the autonomy to make decisions and protect the company''s position.
You''ll also have the opportunity to help shape the next generation of the commercial team, supporting and mentoring junior colleagues as the business continues to grow.
About you You''ll be an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager who is comfortable taking ownership and making commercial decisions.
Ideally, you''ll bring:
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Main contractor experience, ideally within residential, care or healthcare
- Strong experience working on design & build projects and JCT contracts
- A proven track record managing subcontract packages, valuations, variations and final accounts
- Strong commercial negotiation skills
- The confidence to deal directly with clients and senior stakeholders
- A practical, hands-on approach and the ability to work autonomously
- The personality to thrive within a smaller, family-run contractor where your contribution will be noticed
- MRICS status would be advantageous, but isn''t essential
- A full UK driving licence
- £60,000 – £80,000 basic salary, depending on experience
- Car allowance or company car
- Pension and holiday package
- A direct reporting line to the Commercial Director
