Job Title: HLTA / Higher Level Teaching Assistant – SEND

TeacherActive is proud to partner with a specialist SEND provision in South Gloucestershire, supporting children and young people with severe and complex needs, including SLD, PMLD and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

This is a hands-on role in a setting where every pupil requires a high level of individual support. Many pupils are non-verbal or have limited communication and rely on visual aids, communication tools, and sensory-based approaches to engage with learning. You will play a key role in helping pupils access the curriculum in a way that works for them.

As an HLTA, you will lead small group activities and support across the classroom, adapting learning to suit a wide range of needs. You will also support pupils with emotional regulation, physical needs, and engagement, helping to create a calm and structured learning environment.

This role can be challenging at times, but it is equally rewarding. You will be part of a close-knit team that works together to support pupils’ progress, no matter how small, and to build their confidence and independence over time.

The Role:

• Supporting the delivery of adapted lessons across all key stages
• Leading small group work and targeted interventions
• Supporting communication, sensory engagement, and physical needs
• Encouraging independence and positive behaviours

The Successful HLTA Will Have:

• HLTA qualification or strong experience in a higher-level support role
• Experience working with complex SEND, including SLD, PMLD, and ASD
• A calm, consistent, and adaptable approach
• Confidence supporting non-verbal pupils or those with communication needs
• A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
