Job Title: Industrial Placement Student – Asset Integrity Management and Failure Investigation

We assist clients in major hazard industries, commercial, and public sectors to manage health, safety, security, environmental and business risk. Asset Integrity Management focuses on ensuring critical engineering equipment remains safe, reliable and fit for service throughout its operating life.

The Asset Integrity Management team (AIM) is focussed on the Conventional Power and Clean Energy sectors (primarily CCGT, Biomass and Energy from Waste plants).

Job Purpose: We are offering an exciting opportunity for an Industrial Placement Student to join our Asset Integrity Management team in Derby. This placement will offer a rich learning environment and the chance to experience the professional application of managing third party assets through the implementation of engineering principles and techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Asset Integrity Management team in delivering high-quality consultancy services within the Conventional Power and Clean Energy sectors.
• Participate in the analysis of inspection and report data.
• Undertake investigation of failed engineering components.
• Gather data and information from a wide variety of sources, including but not limited non-destructive testing (NDT) reports, temperature assessment reports, materials analysis reports, FEA reports, technical drawings etc.  

• Produce formal technical reports and other project deliverables within agreed timescales.

• Collaborate with team members to support in the implementation of bespoke solutions to client challenges.
• Undertake field assignments at power stations throughout the UK with experienced professionals to gain practical insights and apply classroom knowledge where appropriate.
• Gain exposure to international standards and regulations related to the power industry.

 
Educational Requirements:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, ideally with a focus on Mechanical / Materials / Chemical/ Physics or related fields.
• Currently undertaking a degree that includes an industrial placement year, having successfully completed at least the second year of study
• A hands-on approach with willingness to get involved with projects when required. 

 
Skills and Attributes:

• A base understanding of engineering principles, and material properties.
• Understanding of failure mechanism, and inspection techniques (desirable)
• A basic understanding of how a power station works (desirable)
• A general interest in the energy sector.
• Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, with an aptitude for learning new software and systems.
• Effective communication and team collaboration skills.
• Proactive and self-motivated with an eagerness to learn, alongside a problem-solving mindset.
• Ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks within agreed timeframes.
• Legally authorised to work within the UK.

 
Additional Information:

• Some travel to client sites may be required hence driving licence would be preferred.
