The role
As a Senior Residential Care Worker you will provide primary care, guidance, and a stable therapeutic environment for children and young people in the home. You will lead shifts, supervise colleagues and help manage the home in the absence of the Deputy or Manager so that day-to-day care is safe, consistent, and child-centred. The role exists to support young people to reach their potential while ensuring colleagues deliver a high standard of residential care.
What you''ll be doing
- Providing daily care, nurture and support to children and young people in all aspects of home life.
- Helping young people maintain hobbies, social activities and friendships, and encouraging them to try new opportunities.
- Using consistent boundaries and reactive strategies to support behaviour, emotional wellbeing and safety.
- Acting as a positive role model and building trusting relationships through engagement, communication and active listening.
- Leading shifts, directing colleagues, supervising staff and overseeing the running of the home when senior staff are not present.
- Managing health and safety processes, including implementing and monitoring risk assessments and contributing to care planning, reviews and meetings with other professionals.
What we''re looking for
- Experience working with children and young people in a residential or similar care setting.
- Background in supporting young people with their emotional, social and behavioural needs.
- Experience of leading shifts or taking responsibility within a care team.
- Ability to supervise colleagues, conduct supervisions and support team performance and development.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Confidence in using boundaries and behaviour support strategies in a child-focused way.
- Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals.
- Commitment to ongoing learning, supervision and professional development.
