Business Development Lead, Commercial Sales (Permanent)

Location: Cambridge, hybrid
Salary: £80k to £90k, depending on background and experience, plus benefits

Our client is a technology and engineering consultancy with deep expertise in antenna design, high frequency electronics, digital signal processing and embedded systems, and a leading position in low size, weight, power and cost communications, radar and sensing systems. They deliver varied and technically challenging design and engineering work across consumer, industrial, utilities, healthcare, automotive, security and space markets.

The business has built a strong reputation in the defence sector, and this new role will focus on growth in markets outside of defence. They are looking for a Business Development Lead to drive growth in RF related markets including communications, sensing technologies and radar solutions, bridging technical expertise with commercial strategy to identify opportunities, engage customers, qualify and develop leads, and close sales.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage a robust sales pipeline that meets or exceeds revenue and growth targets
• Identify and develop business opportunities in RF, communications, sensing and radar applications
• Analyse market trends, competitor positioning and emerging technologies
• Translate complex RF and sensing technologies into clear value propositions
• Work closely with engineering teams to tailor solutions to customer needs and support proposal development
• Lead customer meetings, presentations and negotiations
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships
• Provide accurate forecasting and reporting
• Represent the company at industry events, conferences and trade shows

Essential skills and experience

• A good first degree, preferably in engineering or physics
• At least 10 years of postgraduate work experience, including at least five years of proven business development experience, preferably in consulting sales
• Strong understanding of RF systems, wireless communications, sensing or radar technologies
• A passion for establishing new business relationships and building a significant leads and sales pipeline in markets outside of defence
• A demonstrable track record of closing over £1m in new orders per annum for a minimum of three years in a B2B service environment
• Proven ability to understand customers’ strategic, commercial and technology challenges
• An established network within relevant industries
• Experience of research and development and the commercialisation of both technologies and products
• Strong presentation skills and the ability to develop and deliver effective sales campaigns

Working arrangements and start date

• Hybrid working: 2 days working remotely and 3 days onsite
• Slightly more flexibility for sales roles, with 2 days per week onsite tolerated for candidates who live far away
• Start date as soon as possible. Candidates with notice periods longer than 3 months may be ineligible
