You\''ll lead our transformation from modern data consultancy to AI-native data agency, working with teams and clients to build modern, cost-efficient data platforms addressing complex business challenges.You\''ll champion best practices and shape our delivery model from problem scoping through build and maintenance. Critical to success is fostering a builder mindset. We ship iterative, 80/20 solutions that we refine over time - not perfect solutions that don\''t deliver.You will set the technical direction for Tasman\''s engineering practice, architecting AI-native data platforms while empowering senior engineers to lead their teams autonomously. Your strategic vision will guide capability growth, keeping Tasman at the forefront through new technologies and methodologies, particularly LLM/GenAI integration across all delivery aspects.This is a remote role but you will be expected to spend time in our Hubs of Amsterdam and London. You will be a part of the Tasman leadership team, directly influencing our strategy and execution.Leading the function

The Head of Engineering role leads a combined Analytics and Data Engineering team. This role will set the vision for the team, break this vision down into a roadmap and execute on the roadmap. Your credibility is established through a strong technical background and the ability to tackle engineering problems of varying complexities.As the Head of Engineering, you will:Lead our combined Analytics and Data Engineering team with distinct but linked approachesOwn and execute the engineering vision and roadmap, with AI integration as the primary transformation driverIntegrate LLMs/GenAI across all engineering work (pipelines, dbt, documentation, QA) - making AI augmentation standard practiceDefine technical standards balancing AI automation with human expertise to achieve significant productivity gainsAct as product owner for internal engineering initiatives while building a feedback-first cultureTeam Management

Your main role is bringing technical leadership but as we are a small company you will also coach and mentor Staff Engineers.Key responsibilities:Direct management of 2-3 staff engineers who will own day-to-day management and 1-1’s.Influence hiring, recruitment, onboarding and retention strategiesMaintain and build upon our "we solve business problems with data + AI - we don’t just write SQL" cultureCollaborate on Career Management Framework with leadership team and Engineering ManagersEnable staff engineers to deliver great technical standards and best practices across engineeringEnsure daily AI tool usage across the team to ensure even distribution of new skills.Technical Innovation

This role needs to maintain a level of technical proficiency and knowledge. You will keep abreast of new technologies and innovation in the engineering and data landscape. We want to be recognised as industry and thought leaders, and this should be driven by a continuous process of improvement where we stay ahead of industry trends and technologies.Drive innovation through:Coordinating internal AI platform/tooling MVP as competitive advantageRun AI experiments per squad, converting wins into case studies and service offeringsIdentify nascent technologies, focusing on evolving AI/LLM landscape in data engineering and analyticsCreate knowledge-sharing forums (ceremonies, summits, hackathons)Run cross-functional technical sessionsRepresenting the company at conferences and events - growing into a thought leadership roleDevelop reusable IP from client patterns or internal workEstablish thought leadership through content and open source contributions.Client Oversight and Commercial Impact

Maintain overview across multiple squads without single-client focus. Understand technical decisions'' commercial impact.Responsibilities include:Ultimate accountability for engineering quality across all projectsTranslate AI efficiency gains to margin improvement through reusable patternsSupport new delivery models (fixed-price, capability goals) while protecting marginCollaborate on complex technical work, maximising impact through engineersEngage early in new projects for contextual knowledgeCreate "spear fishing" processes - general awareness with targeted deep-divesSupport sales with technical authority with pragmatism.Collaboration with Leadership

Core member of Senior Leadership Team (SLT), representing engineering voice.SLT responsibilities:Collaborate on key decisions and communicate to wider companyExecute cohesive Engineering vision and roadmapOwn "Engineering 2026" transformation plan for AI-native positioningPartner with Head of Data Analytics and Strategy to break down functional barriersSupport pre-sales with awareness of evolving partner landscapeReport AI adoption metrics, productivity gains, and margin improvements.Process

This strategic role offers competitive compensation reflecting its importance to Tasman''s future: £90-110k (UK) or €100-125k (Netherlands) base salary, significant equity upside, plus comprehensive benefits including learning budgets, wellness allowances, pension/retirement contributions, and 25 days holiday.This is what you can expect from the hiring process:Application:
