We are seeking a Locum Consultant in Interventional Radiology on a fixed term contract for 6-12 months.The Radiology Department delivers a comprehensive imaging and interventional service, supporting a busy District General Hospital. Flexible working within job plans and arrangements is available, including the option of a hybrid role. Home PACS access is available for reporting from home part of the week.Taunton is a BSIR exemplar site with modern facilities, including a refurbished 45m suite with Siemens Artis-Q, Dyna CT, Cydar AI, IVUS, lithotripsy, and a 5-bed radiology day unit. Vascular interventions are increasingly performed as day cases, and the service targets are being met. In 2025, a brand new 79m hybrid IR theatre will open as part of the new surgical and critical care wing.Main duties of the job
Specialist registration with the GMC is essential for this locum role. Where GMC specialist registration is not held, the role will be converted to Specialist contract on NHS pay and terms. Apply accordingly.Taunton is a high-volume IR centre performing vascular and non-vascular IR procedures. You will be supported in developing new services and participate in the non-resident interventional on-call rota based at Musgrove Park. On-call frequency will be discussed at interview/offer. The team includes experienced Interventional Nurses and Radiographers to support on-call shifts. There is no diagnostic on-call requirement.Responsibilities include image-guided biopsy and drainage lists, supporting general vascular and aortic aneurysm work, MDTs, running an IR clinic, reporting on regional vascular imaging, and contributing to general reporting to support the wider team. The role involves involvement in the Somerset and North Devon vascular network, supporting a population of over 800,000 across North Devon, Yeovil, Taunton, and Somerset. Emergency vascular procedures, aneurysm work and imaging are centralised at Taunton, with elective referrals from Yeovil and day-case angioplasties for North Devon.About us
