Travel to Work - Some prison establishments are situated in rural locations with limited public transport options. Therefore, a driving licence and own transport are beneficial but not essential unless specified.Please note that shift start and finish times are fixed, and it is your responsibility to get to and from your place of work on time for the start of your shift. Consider the location of this vacancy and your transport options carefully.Accommodation is not provided.Your job can include:

Gate duties: ensuring the secure entry and exit of staff, visitors, vehicles; carrying out searches; patrolling perimeter fence areas; issuing and collecting keys and radios.Control room: operating radios, monitoring CCTV, reporting suspicious activities.Visits: welcoming visitors, escorting if needed.Correspondence: monitoring mail, reporting contraband items.Night duties: ensuring cell doors are locked, prisoners accounted for.Reception: photographing prisoners, processing property and parcels.Prisoner supervision: supervising prisoners, exchanging clothing and property.Food delivery: delivering and collecting food trolleys or using electric tug vehicles.Driving duties: collecting mail, involving lifting heavy sacks.Phone calls: monitoring PIN phone system, maintaining logs.Procedures and protocols: understanding and adhering to policies, responding to incidents.No formal qualifications are required. The role demands good judgement, common sense, responsibility, and teamwork. Fluency in English or Welsh (in Wales) is necessary.This role is part of the Civil Service, which recruits based on merit and fair competition.
