Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you''ll lead the design and development of mechanical products from concept through to manufacture, ensuring solutions are innovative, cost-effective, compliant and production-ready.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in product development, technical leadership and continuous improvement within a growing engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design projects from concept through to manufacture.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and technical drawings.
• Carry out engineering calculations, simulations and design validation activities.
• Select suitable materials and manufacturing processes.
• Develop and test prototypes to ensure performance, durability and compliance.
• Work closely with manufacturing, quality, procurement and project teams.
• Improve existing products to enhance performance, reliability and manufacturability.
• Ensure designs meet relevant engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
• Support technical problem-solving and root cause investigations.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance where required.

Skills & Experience

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Proven experience in a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer or similar role.
• Strong CAD experience and ability to produce manufacturing-ready designs.
• Good understanding of materials, fabrication, machining, welding and assembly processes.
• Knowledge of engineering calculations, tolerancing and FEA.
• Experience designing products for manufacture and cost efficiency.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and project management skills.
• Ability to lead design activities and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
