Warehouse Operations Manager
Are you an ambitious, resilient and results-driven Warehouse Operations Manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys taking ownership?
We''re looking for an experienced Warehouse Operations Manager to join a growing temperature-controlled logistics business, taking responsibility for a busy operation supporting the safe and efficient storage and distribution of food and pharmaceutical products.
Why this opportunity?
Grow your career - Join a rapidly expanding business where growth creates opportunities to develop, take on responsibility and help shape the future of the operation.
Think beyond the warehouse - Gain exposure to a European organisation and work alongside teams and customers across multiple markets.
Work in an essential industry - Play a key role in a sector that keeps critical food and pharmaceutical supply chains moving.
Make an impact - Your leadership, ideas and operational expertise will help improve performance, develop people and support the continued growth of the business.
What will you be doing?
As Warehouse Operations Manager, you''ll have overall responsibility for the effective running of the warehouse operation. You''ll be responsible for creating a safe, well-organised and high-performing environment while ensuring customers receive the service and product quality they expect.
You''ll:
- Take ownership of the warehouse operation, ensuring goods move efficiently from receipt through storage and ultimately to dispatch.
- Lead and develop the warehouse team, setting clear expectations, building capability and creating an environment where people are accountable for their performance.
- Organise staffing, shift patterns and day-to-day resources to ensure the operation can meet changing volumes and customer requirements.
- Set the pace on operational performance, using meaningful measures and regular reviews to identify where improvements can be made.
- Maintain the standards required for temperature-sensitive products, ensuring appropriate controls are in place to protect product quality throughout the storage process.
- Take a proactive approach to food, pharmaceutical and workplace compliance, ensuring the operation is consistently audit-ready and that procedures are followed in practice.
- Work closely with the team to identify operational risks, investigate incidents or deviations and put effective corrective actions in place.
- Keep a close eye on stock accuracy, storage utilisation and product movements, ensuring discrepancies are investigated and resolved promptly.
- Build effective working relationships with transport, procurement, customer-facing and other operational teams to keep product flowing and minimise disruption.
- Make the most of warehouse technology, including WMS, ERP and temperature-monitoring systems, to improve visibility, accuracy and control.
- Look for opportunities to modernise the operation through better processes, technology, automation and smarter ways of working.
- Take ownership of the warehouse budget, managing labour, equipment, maintenance and other operating costs in line with business requirements.
- Monitor spend against budget, identify opportunities to improve productivity and control costs, and ensure financial decisions support service, safety and compliance.
- Provide management with clear information on operational performance, resource requirements, costs and future needs.
- Contribute to decisions around equipment, infrastructure and other investments that could improve the warehouse operation and support future growth.
- Encourage a culture where problems are addressed rather than passed on, with the team continually looking for better, safer and more efficient ways of working.
What are we looking for?
We''re looking for someone who combines strong operational experience with genuine people leadership. You''ll be comfortable making decisions, taking ownership and balancing the demands of service, cost, compliance and team performance.
You''ll ideally have:
- A solid track record of managing warehouse operations, preferably within food, pharmaceutical, logistics or another temperature-sensitive environment.
- Experience working with chilled, frozen or controlled-ambient products and an understanding of the additional controls these environments require.
- Experience leading, coaching and developing warehouse teams, with the confidence to manage performance and set clear standards.
- A good working knowledge of warehouse compliance, health & safety and the requirements associated with regulated products.
- Familiarity with food safety and pharmaceutical standards such as HACCP, BRC, GDP and MHRA requirements.
- Experience using warehouse management and business systems, ideally including WMS and ERP platforms.
- The ability to use operational data and KPIs to understand performance and drive improvements.
- Experience managing an operational budget, controlling expenditure and making effective use of resources.
- The ability to balance commercial considerations with service, safety, quality and compliance requirements.
- Strong judgement and problem-solving skills, with the ability to remain calm and decisive when things don''t go to plan.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people at all levels, from warehouse colleagues through to senior management and external stakeholders.
- A structured and organised approach, with the ability to prioritise competing demands in a busy operation.
- A proactive mindset and a genuine interest in continuous improvement, technology and developing better ways of working.
- Relevant food safety, GDP or other industry qualifications would be advantageous.
