Our education recruitment agency is looking for a Head of Food & Design Technology-to work within secondary school in Bury St Edmunds.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher and leader, or an ambitious practitioner ready to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will lead a thriving DT and Food department, inspiring students through innovative teaching and a curriculum that develops creativity, practical skills, and real-world problem-solving.

The Role

As Head of Department, you will:

• Provide strategic leadership for Design Technology and Food Technology across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with potential KS5 opportunities).
• Lead curriculum planning, development, and assessment.
• Drive high-quality teaching and learning across the department.
• Support, develop and inspire departmental staff.
• Monitor progress and implement strategies that ensure excellent student outcomes.
• Promote the value of practical and vocational learning throughout the school.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Has a proven track record of delivering outstanding outcomes in DT and/or Food Technology.
• Demonstrates strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate colleagues.
• Is passionate about practical, creative, and technical education.
• Has excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Is committed to raising aspirations and achievement for all students.
