Health and Safety Manager
Salary: -60,000 to -70,000 Plus Excellent Benefits

Do you have a passion for creating practical safety systems, improving compliance, and embedding a positive Health and Safety culture across a business?

Irwin and Colton are seeking a proactive Health and Safety Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of Health and Safety across a growing manufacturing business based in Bedford, with responsibility for two additional sites.

This is a key role for ensuring Health and Safety requirements are translated into practical working procedures, embedded within departments, and consistently followed. Working closely with senior management, departmental managers, and Health and Safety Champions, the successful candidate will coordinate the company''s Health and Safety management system and drive actions through to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain, implement, and continually improve the company''s Health and Safety management system across the Bedford site and two additional locations, ensuring policies, procedures, risk assessments, and records remain current and effective.
• Coordinate and oversee risk assessments, inspections, audits, COSHH, machinery safety, workplace transport, fire safety, contractor management, and other operational Health and Safety requirements.
• Establish and coordinate Health and Safety Champions across departments, promoting employee engagement, hazard reporting, and positive Health and Safety behaviours.
• Manage accident, incident, and near-miss reporting, including investigations, corrective actions, trend analysis, and monitoring actions through to completion.
• Provide senior management with clear reporting on Health and Safety performance, while supporting consistent standards and continual improvement across all three sites.

Ideal Candidate:

• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Health and Safety qualification, with practical experience in a manufacturing, engineering, warehouse, or similar operational environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK workplace Health and Safety legislation and experience undertaking and reviewing risk assessments within operational settings.
• Confident working around manufacturing machinery and industrial environments, with knowledge of PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, workplace transport, and machinery safety desirable.
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices and influence employees, managers, and senior leadership.
• Full UK driving licence, with a practical, commercially aware approach and willingness to travel between the Bedford site and two additional locations.
