1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant

We are looking for a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Southwark from December 2026.

The successful candidate will work closely with a pupil on a 1:1 basis, providing consistent support throughout the school day and helping them access learning, communicate effectively and develop their independence.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN TA who understands that consistency, communication and strong relationships are key to supporting children with additional needs.

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child with additional needs
• Support a non verbal child with communication and engagement
• Use AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) to support communication
• Use Makaton confidently within the classroom
• Support the child to access learning and classroom activities
• Develop communication, social and emotional skills
• Promote independence and confidence
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO
• Follow individual support plans and EHCP targets
• Maintain a consistent and nurturing approach throughout the school day

The school is looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who has:

• Previous experience providing 1:1 SEN support
• Experience supporting non verbal children
• Experience using AAC
• Knowledge or practical experience of Makaton
• Experience supporting children with complex additional needs
• A calm, patient and consistent approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• A genuine passion for inclusive education
• The ability to work effectively alongside teachers, SENCOs and other professionals
