Shop Floor Operator

Location: Consett, County Durham

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Sewing Machinist / Shop Floor Operator to join a busy manufacturing environment in Consett.

This is a hands-on production role involving the manufacture of test fabrics, operating industrial sewing machines and supporting wider shop floor activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate flat sewing machines and overlockers to sew fabric strips.
• Follow customer test sheets and production instructions accurately.
• Complete production check sheets and maintain accurate records.
• Identify and report quality issues or non-conformances.
• Carry out basic sewing machine maintenance and troubleshoot minor issues.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
• Meet daily production targets whilst maintaining quality standards.
• Work closely with the production team to resolve sewing-related issues.
• Undertake general shop floor duties when required, including applying products to fabrics by hand and labelling fabric samples.
• Follow all Health & Safety procedures.

Essential Requirements:

• Proven experience operating industrial flat sewing machines and overlockers.
• Previous experience within manufacturing, textiles or tailoring.
• Basic knowledge of sewing machine maintenance.
• Ability to follow detailed work instructions consistently.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable:

• Experience operating a cover stitch sewing machine.
