Starling engineers are excited about helping us deliver new features, regardless of what their primary tech stack may be. We have built our entire banking platform in house and mostly in Java, and we are looking for people who want to work on building the tooling that is used by our engineers daily.Our Android engineers work in cross-functional feature teams within broader engineering groups. You are empowered to make the decisions necessary for the platform and to provide insight to the team leads on projects. You\''ll be committing, reviewing and shipping new code from the first week and collaborating with other Android engineers with a variety of experience levels to improve and develop our Android app, CI automations and tooling.Responsibilities
Work in cross-functional feature teams to build, ship and maintain the Android app, CI automations and tooling.Make decisions necessary for the platform; provide insight to team leads; commit, review and ship code from week one.Collaborate with other Android engineers and designers to improve the app and user experience.Share knowledge, streamline processes, and deliver high-quality results for our customers.Requirements
As an Android engineer, you will report to a mobile lead engineer and work in a collaborative, open culture.Prioritize security when implementing features, fixing bugs or making improvements; focus on accessibility and writing clean, maintainable code.Take ownership of the code from building and shipping to maintaining it, and share knowledge to make processes efficient.Commit to delivering stable, resilient, high-quality code with testing; we use Espresso for UI/E2E tests and JUnit for unit tests, and we work with QA engineers for complex feature delivery.Technology and Stack
The majority of our codebase is Kotlin, with Kotlin-based development; we use MVVM for presentation and RxJava for asynchronous operations.We use Dagger for dependency injection and Realm for persistence.We place emphasis on a polished Android UI with a shared component library and cross-platform parity with iOS; weekly app updates and automated release steps for safer rollouts.Interview process
