Overview
Management Reporting (Business Units) Senior Manager role within the MOD - Cyber and Specialist Operations Command (CSOC) Finance Function. The function supports multiple Service Directorates and, following Finance Transformation in January 2025, is made up of over 180 finance personnel across Finance Operations, Specialist Services, Finance Business Partnering Teams and Finance Military Operations.Responsibilities
Collaborate with wider finance teams, Plans, Specialist Services, Management Information, Business Management and Commercial to ensure a joined-up approach.Ensure management reporting meets end-user needs and conveys key messages using continuous improvement principles.Maintain accurate financial reporting within corporate systems and for input of accounting entries to support decision making.Provide intelligent insights into complex financial information, extract themes, explain linkages and dependencies, and translate data into meaningful outputs for senior leadership and wider Finance.Maintain understanding of the overall financial position of business areas and provide consolidated financial positions at various levels within the organisation.Utilise information from Finance Business Partners to maximise knowledge and support future decisions.Routine Requirements
Produce instructions for IYM and long-term planning (1-10 years), setting internal timelines aligned with Strategic Head Office requirements.Provide standardised reports/dashboards for monthly financial reviews and long-term planning, highlighting areas of concern to the relevant Finance Business Partner.Produce standardised templates/forms for recurring requests and advise on required information.Manage routine activities underpinning accurate reporting, including the implementation of accounting advice and policy changes, including monitoring.Managing your team
Manage team members, empower, motivate and coach to enable effective delivery.Support individual development, careers and leadership skills within the team, and foster peer development.Encourage challenge and new ideas, share knowledge, and create a supportive team environment.Continuous improvement
Share best practice and refine standardised processes, feeding back changes to process owners for consistency across the MOD finance function.Continuously improve service provision, address issues promptly and keep customers informed of impacts.Person specification
Essential
Qualified with a CCAB/CIMA accountancy qualification.Strong leader and manager who empowers the team, guides change, process re-engineering, automation, training and tooling across Finance and Service Directorates.Significant experience in a Finance environment with the ability to understand and interpret complex business and financial requirements.Strong communicator capable of engaging with stakeholders from finance and non-finance functions.Desirable
Understanding of how MOD/CSOC operates given its breadth and highly delegated model.Experience of Agile Delivery and Scrum.Ability to balance competing priorities with good judgement and initiative; capable of coordinating the team accordingly.Self-starter able to work independently from high-level strategic direction.Strong written and oral briefing skills.Qualifications
