Lead Data Scientist – Financial Crime at Mastercard. Mastercard is a global technology company in the payments industry dedicated to connecting and powering an inclusive, digital economy. Our solutions help individuals, financial institutions, governments, and businesses realize their greatest potential.In the Financial Crime Solutions team, we build and deliver products and services powered by payments data to find and stop financial crime. We craft bespoke algorithms that help our clients gain an understanding of the underlying criminal behaviour and empower them to take action.In This Position, You Will

Perform proof-of-concept projects, engage in product design and build prototypes.Use the full range of data science techniques to develop new and novel algorithms for financial crime products.Perform novel research to understand different criminal behaviours in payments data.Turn derived insights into new products and services for external clients.Learn new technologies as required, engaging with legacy and future technology stacks in the UK and internationally.Write white papers, patents, and client-facing data visualisations.Consider the full impact of work, including privacy, security, regulation, and the performance and accuracy of models.Skills Required

Your passion is focused on designing algorithms to solve real, pressing problems using data. You should have an interest in the financial services industry and a desire to tackle financial crime. Specifically:Proficient Python programming with experience in pandas, scikit-learn, networkx, and related data science libraries.Ability to develop new algorithms in novel situations and demonstrate previous work as evidence.Curiosity about the data and how to model the behaviours it exposes.Ability to communicate with non-technical colleagues and empathise with others’ perspectives.Willingness to explore new programming languages, technologies, and techniques.Can-do attitude, pragmatic when needed, and able to work as part of a specialist team; open to code reviews and constructive criticism.Desirable ExperienceExperience with streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka), online algorithms (e.g., stochastic gradient descent), and fixed-memory data structures (e.g., Bloom Filters).Experience with advanced machine learning techniques and tools (e.g., Deep Neural Networks, TensorFlow).Exposure to Network Theory, social network analysis, and graph diffusion; ability to build custom visualisations and prototype browser-based UX/UI with server-side support.Corporate Security Responsibility
