Quantity Surveyor – Civils / Construction

Location: West Thurrock, Essex
Position: Permanent

We are recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join an established construction contractor working on a long-term civil engineering project in West Thurrock, Essex.

This is a predominantly site-based position, working from one project rather than travelling across multiple sites.

The opportunity would suit a Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their career within civil engineering and infrastructure. Previous civils experience would be beneficial but is not essential, and candidates from other construction sectors will be considered.

The Role

Working closely with the site, project and commercial teams, you will be responsible for supporting the commercial management and successful delivery of the project.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Preparing valuations and payment applications.
• Subcontractor procurement and commercial management.
• Measurement and valuation of works.
• Monitoring project costs and commercial performance.
• Managing variations and change.
• Supporting cost forecasting and reporting.
• Identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
• Preparing and agreeing subcontractor accounts.
• Supporting the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
• Working closely with the site team to monitor progress against costs.
• Maintaining accurate commercial records and documentation.

About You

We are interested in speaking with candidates who:

• Have Quantity Surveying experience within construction, civil engineering, infrastructure or a related sector.
• Are interested in developing their experience within civil engineering.
• Have experience with valuations, subcontractors, variations and cost management.
• Hold a relevant Quantity Surveying or construction qualification.
• Have strong commercial and communication skills.
• Ideally live within a reasonable commute of West Thurrock, Essex.
• Hold a full UK driving licence.

Previous civil engineering experience is not essential. The company is open to Quantity Surveyors from other construction backgrounds who have the right commercial experience and are keen to move into civils.
