Mechanical Design Engineer | Bedford | Up to £45,000 + Excellent Benefits

Kingston Barnes is currently working with a long-established and highly respected engineering business based in Bedford that specialises in the design and development of complex rotating machinery.

Due to continued growth and internal progression, they're looking to bring on a Mechanical Design Engineer.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with hands-on engineering experience, perhaps from a machining or fitting background, who’s now looking to develop their design career in a supportive, technically engaging environment.

The Role:

As a Design Engineer, you'll be working under the guidance of experienced senior engineers, translating design specifications into accurate 3D models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks. Your work will contribute directly to bespoke, engineered-to-order products, with a strong emphasis on manufacturing support, product improvement, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support project design activities from concept through to production
• Develop 3D models and detailed 2D drawings
• Perform basic engineering calculations and simulations
• Create bills of materials and technical documentation
• Liaise with suppliers to ensure design for manufacture (DFM) principles are followed
• Provide technical support to the workshop and occasionally visit client sites for measurements or inspections
• Contribute to product development projects, working alongside sales and operations

About You:

• HNC (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering (Preferred)
• Solid understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes
• Experience using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
• Confident communicator and team player with a keen eye for detail
• Practical experience in machining or fitting would be a strong advantage
• Ambition to grow and progress—this role is well-suited for someone aiming to become a lead engineer in the future

The Package:

• Salary up to £45,000 depending on experience
• 25 days holiday + the option to buy 5 more + bank holidays
