Two Salaried GPs 5-6 sessions required from January 2026We are seeking two enthusiastic and highly motivated GPs to join our friendly and supportive training practice. With a strong track record of teamwork and delivering excellent primary care, we now have exciting opportunities available due to a forthcoming retirement and maternity leave. The maternity cover will begin from January 2026 for one year. The permanent role will be to start Jan-Apr 2026.Main duties of the job

Semi-rural practice, close to Reading, approx. 10,000 patientsCurrently 4 partners, 7 salaried doctors, 4 GP registrarsPersonal list based on usual doctor to encourage continuity with buddy and duty system15 minute appointmentsTraining Practice with 4 GP TrainersOutstanding CQC rating and excellent patient satisfaction surveyHighly skilled nursing team with nurse led clinics including minor illnessDispensary on site, dispensing to 30% of patients7 weeks annual leave and 1 week study leave pro-rataSalary: £11,118 per sessionOpportunity to develop special interestsDaily coffee meeting protectedIn house training programme and individual protected time for educationActive within Henley SonNet PCN, with clinical pharmacists, social prescribers and care co-ordinatorsAbout us

Sonning Common Health Centre is a well-established, friendly, and forward-thinking GP practice serving our local community with high-quality, patient-centred care to approximately 10,000 patients. We are a training practice with a strong ethos of teamwork, professional development, and innovation.Our multi-disciplinary team includes GPs, nurses, clinical pharmacists, healthcare assistants, and a dedicated administrative team who work collaboratively to provide excellent care for our patients. We value open communication, mutual support, and continuous learning.The practice also has an active social calendar, including Christmas and summer parties and we use PLT sessions to bring the staff together as well as to keep updated.Job responsibilities

Purpose of the RoleAs a Salaried GP at Sonning Common Health Centre, you will play a key role in providing high-quality, patient-centred care in line with the values of our practice. Youll have your own usual doctor list, proportionate to your sessions, ensuring continuity of care for patients. Alongside this, youll be an active member of our supportive team, contributing to the clinical, educational, and organisational life of the practice while being encouraged to grow and develop in your roleKey Responsibilities1. Clinical CareWork in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice and maintain the highest professional and ethical standards.Consult with patients during normal surgery hours (8:30am-6:30pm).15 minutes appointmentsShare in the duty doctor rota on a pro-rata basis.Conduct home visits, shared out equally among doctors each morning.Provide consultations that identify patients'' problems effectively, ensuring clear communication and continuity of care.Provide proactive care by screening patients for risk factors and early signs of illness.Order appropriate investigations, monitor treatment, and make timely referrals to secondary or community care.Deliver holistic, patient-centred care promoting physical, psychological, and social wellbeing.Cover designated clinics (e.g. diabetes, child health, antenatal, Well Woman) and local nursing/residential care homes as required.Provide contraceptive services and minor surgery (optional, dependent on skills).Complete medical examinations and medico-legal reports as required.Ensure accurate and timely clinical record-keeping using EMIS.Participate in clinical decision-making, case discussions, and debriefing sessions with partners or colleagues.Support GP trainees and students by providing feedback, tutorials, and informal teaching.Prescribing and Medicines ManagementPrescribe safely, effectively, and cost-consciously, following the practice and CCG formulary.Monitor and review patients on repeat medication.Provide guidance and support for clinical pharmacists within the practice.Administrative and Practice DutiesManage EMIS tasks, Docman workflow, emails, Medicines Management, Lab results, and correspondence efficiently and promptly.Contribute to the development and review of practice protocols and clinical audits.Comply with practice and statutory policies, including health and safety.Participate in a range of internal and external meetings, including clinical, practice, safeguarding, Gold Standards Framework (GSF), educational sessions, and multi-agency meetings.Maintain a Personal Development Plan (PDP) and keep up to date with clinical knowledge and skills.Support training and supervision of registrars, students, and healthcare team members.Collaborate effectively with all members of the primary healthcare team.Uphold and enhance the good reputation of the practice.Personal and Professional DevelopmentEngage with a designated mentor, attending annual meetings.Maintain a current appraisal and revalidation portfolio in line with NHS requirements.Take responsibility for ongoing professional education and skills development.Person Specification

Qualifications

Medical degree and foundation programme certificate of completion (or equivalent)Qualified GP with MRCGPExperience
