Chief Engineer - EC&I (Technical Authority) - C.£70,000 + car allowance - Sheffield (Hybrid)

The Opportunity
Our client is continuing to grow through an expanding portfolio of complex, bespoke engineering projects delivered across a range of highly regulated and technically demanding sectors.

To support this growth, they are looking to appoint a Chief EC&I Engineer to act as the technical authority for all Electrical, Control & Instrumentation activities across the business.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and wants to remain close to engineering rather than moving into purely operational management. You will provide technical leadership across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring engineering excellence from concept through to commissioning and customer handover.

The role offers exposure to a diverse project portfolio spanning Defence, Nuclear, Infrastructure, Energy and advanced engineering applications, ensuring no two projects are ever the same.

The Role
As Chief EC&I Engineer, you will provide technical oversight, governance and assurance across the EC&I function.

Working alongside Project Managers, Functional Safety Engineers, Hardware Engineers and Automation Engineers, you will act as the final point of technical escalation, reviewing engineering solutions, guiding technical decision-making and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and best practice.

This is a technically focused position centred around engineering quality, design assurance and mentoring, rather than day-to-day
resource management.

Location & Working Model
Sheffield based HQ
Hybrid (1-2 days wfh)

• Act as the technical and design authority for all EC&I engineering activities.
• Provide technical leadership across a portfolio of complex engineering projects.
• Review and approve electrical schematics, control system architectures, instrumentation designs and engineering documentation.
• Drive engineering best practice, standards compliance and technical governance.
• Support projects throughout concept development, detailed design, manufacture, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Lead technical reviews and provide guidance on engineering challenges and design decisions.
• Mentor and develop EC&I engineers across the business.
• Support customer-facing technical discussions and design reviews.
• Influence engineering strategy and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.
• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compliant and technically robust solutions are delivered.

• Significant experience within Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering.
• Experience reviewing and assuring complex engineering designs and documentation.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, control systems, instrumentation and commissioning activities.
• Ability to provide technical leadership and mentor engineering teams.
• Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in an Engineering discipline.
• Experience working in heavy engineering/critical industries such as: Defence, Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Energy etc
