This is a part-time band 6 position in A9 – Cardiothoracic Surgical Ward, a 20-bed unit caring for patients with complex cardiac and thoracic needs, pre and post surgery. We care for step downs from ITU following extensive cardiac surgery, patients with tracheostomies, and those undergoing the Enhanced Recovery for Thoracic Surgery programme.Responsibilities
Provide strong clinical leadership, supporting and inspiring junior colleagues.Ensure safe, high quality, evidence-based patient care. Play a key role in service improvement, staff development, and patient experience.Act as a clinical role model in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.Liaise with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty.Be responsible for all aspects of patient care including assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff.Support the ward manager to monitor safety and quality of care for patients; maintain accurate clinical observations and apply nursing skills and competencies.Manage a group of staff nurses and healthcare support workers within shifts, assign delegated tasks and responsibilities as appropriate.Assist in teaching and development of the nursing team, healthcare support workers and pre-registration students, helping them achieve learning outcomes.Ensure compliance with mandatory training and appraisal requirements for delegated nursing staff and healthcare support workers.Qualifications and Requirements
Substantial experience in cardiac or acute care.Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.Commitment to developing both personal practice and the team.Enthusiasm, resilience, and a patient-centred approach.Ability to provide high-quality, individualised nursing care by assessing needs and developing, implementing and evaluating care plans.Ability to liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty.Experience in supervising and supporting staff, with the capacity to monitor safety and quality of care.Willingness to contribute to teaching and development, and to support training for junior staff and students.Commitment to maintaining mandatory training and appraisal requirements for the nursing team.About the Opportunity
