Account Manager - Coventry Observer

Location: Coventry & Rugby (with one day per week at our Head Office in Redditch)
Salary: -30,000 - -35,000 per annum + uncapped commission

The Coventry Observer is looking for an ambitious and commercially minded Account Manager to join our growing team. Working across our trusted local newspaper, quarterly glossy magazine, and 24/7 digital platforms, you'll play a key role in helping businesses connect with highly engaged local audiences through effective print and digital advertising solutions.

About the Role

As an Account Manager, you'll work closely with SMEs across Coventry and Rugby, building strong relationships and acting as a trusted marketing advisor. You'll identify business needs, develop tailored advertising solutions, and help clients maximise their marketing investment through our extensive multimedia offering.

This is a varied role combining telephone, Zoom and face-to-face meetings, with responsibility for both managing existing accounts and generating new business opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Identify customer needs through effective questioning and recommend suitable print and digital advertising solutions.
  • Research businesses to create tailored proposals and marketing recommendations.
  • Manage a portfolio of accounts to ensure excellent customer service and retention.
  • Generate new business through networking, prospecting, referrals and cold calling.
  • Re-engage lapsed customers and identify opportunities to grow revenue.
  • Promote sector-specific features and special focus publications to relevant businesses.
  • Represent the Coventry Observer professionally as an ambassador for local media.
About You
  • Proven experience in B2B sales, ideally within a consultative or solution-based environment.
  • Professional, friendly and confident communicator.
  • Strong relationship-building and account management skills.
  • Commercially aware and motivated by achieving results.
  • Passionate about helping local businesses grow and succeed.
  • Committed to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Knowledge of print, digital or multimedia advertising would be an advantage, but is not essential.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.
