Head of Care - Part Time

Our client, an established charity, is looking for a Head of Care / Lead Nurse to join their team on a part time basis. Please note the successful candidate must be willing to travel abroad each Easter for 2 weeks.-This is a great opportunity for a Grade 8 Nurse with significant management experience to support all care elements for the charity and ensure they are delivered safely and to the highest standard.
The key responsibilities:
- Strategic Clinical Leadership - set the strategic direction for care and clinical practice and provide expert clinical advice
- Volunteer nurse recruitment - lead the recruitment, selection and deployment of volunteer nurses, ensuring they meet professional requirements, establishing systems for appraisal and building an engaged nursing workforce
- Quality assurance and continuous improvement - Design and lead a clinical governance and quality assurance framework, drive continuous improvement and ensuring practice aligns with national standards
- Governance and compliance - Ensure compliance with UK charity law and safeguarding regulations and maintaining risk registers-
- Operational Clinical Excellence - Provide senior clinical oversight for all activities involving care provision, act as clinical escalation point
- Audit, Legal, Regulatory and Compliance Leadership - Lead or oversee clinical audits and assurance processes, maintain oversight of documentation
- Finance and resource management - Work with the Finance function and operational colleagues to manage budgets, financial planning, and reporting
- Organisational Wellbeing and Workforce Support - Provide strategic leadership for staff and volunteer wellbeing, support individuals and teams following incidents and champion DEI
- Professional accountability - Practice in accordance with the NMC Code and maintain professional registration
The skills & qualities needed:
- NMC-registered nurse with demonstrable clinical leadership, governance or service management post-registration at NHS Band 8 or above
- Ability to assess and manage risk dynamically in non-clinical or unpredictable environments
- Proven ability to lead, influence, and support multidisciplinary and volunteer teams
- Deep commitment to safeguarding, including experience of applying safeguarding procedures in practice, and to person-centred care
- Ability to travel to prepare and support abroad at Easter for a duration of 2 weeks, annually
- Experience in a charity desirable
- Strong communication skills, including report writing and board-level engagement
