Senior Engineer

Shape Complex Engineering Solutions from Concept to Deployment

This is a-senior role within an established engineering and technology business operating in highly regulated and safety-critical industries. They require a-technically strong engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, leading challenging projects and taking ownership of engineering solutions through the full project lifecycle.

This position offers genuine end-to-end involvement. You will work on the development of complete systems, from early concept generation and requirements definition through detailed design, manufacture, testing, commissioning and operational deployment.

We are particularly interested in engineers who have experience delivering complete engineering systems rather than owning a single component within a larger project.

The successful candidate will understand how individual subsystems interact and will be comfortable balancing technical performance, operational requirements, manufacturability, cost and safety considerations.

The Opportunity

Lead and deliver a diverse range of engineering projects supporting customers operating in demanding industrial environments.

Projects may include:

• Engineering consultancy and technical studies
• Design and development of bespoke mechanical equipment and systems
• Equipment testing, commissioning and operational deployment
• Multidisciplinary engineering projects involving mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems

Key Responsibilities

• Lead engineering projects from concept through to delivery
• Capture and define customer and stakeholder requirements
• Develop innovative engineering solutions to complex technical challenges
• Produce engineering calculations, technical specifications and design documentation
• Oversee the development of detailed engineering designs and manufacturing information
• Manage technical interfaces with suppliers and manufacturing partners
• Support equipment build, assembly, commissioning and acceptance testing activities
• Deliver technical reports, feasibility studies and engineering assessments
• Coordinate multidisciplinary project activities and technical resources
• Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards and industry requirements
• Support the development and mentoring of junior engineers
• Contribute to engineering best practice and continuous improvement initiatives

Essential Experience

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
• Experience delivering engineering projects within safety-critical or highly regulated industries
• Proven experience managing projects through multiple phases of the engineering lifecycle
• Strong background in concept development and problem solving
• Ability to undertake detailed engineering design and analysis
• Experience producing technical specifications and engineering documentation
• Experience working with external suppliers and stakeholders
• Understanding of manufacturing, assembly, commissioning or testing activities
• Strong project planning and organisational skills
• Excellent technical communication and report-writing capability

Particularly Attractive Experience

• Development of complex mechanical systems with electrical and hydraulic interfaces
• Experience within sectors such as energy, nuclear, oil & gas, industrial technology, defence, infrastructure or other high-hazard environments
• Chartered Engineer status or progress towards professional registration
