Principal Designer
– We are working on behalf of a well-established and growing consultancy to recruit a Principal Designer to support the continued expansion of their services in Theale, Reading. This is an excellent opportunity for a Health and Safety professional with solid experience in design and construction to join a dynamic team and work across a range of sectors including housing, education, and commercial developments. As a Principal Designer, you will play a key role in the delivery of CDM services across multiple projects, liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure Health and Safety obligations are effectively addressed and managed throughout the project lifecycle. The position offers exposure to a wide variety of project types and sizes, with a strong emphasis on risk management and legal compliance under CDM 2015.Responsibilities
Advise clients on their duties under CDM 2015Act as Principal Designer, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, Approved Code of Practice (ACOP), and industry best practiceLiaise with design teams to compile and maintain Design Risk Management schedulesCollate and assess pre-construction information, identifying and addressing any data gapsConduct Health and Safety design reviews during both design and construction phasesFacilitate effective communication between all duty holders on Health and Safety coordinationPrepare and issue project-specific Health and Safety Files upon completionProvide CDM advice and support to internal teams including designers and project managersRequired Skills and Experience
Recognised Health and Safety qualification or professional membership (e.g. APS, IOSH)Degree (or equivalent) in a construction-related disciplineMinimum of 3 years'' post-qualification experienceIn-depth knowledge of CDM 2015, L144 and associated industry guidanceDemonstrated experience in design risk management and multi-disciplinary project deliveryExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalUnderstanding of typical construction methods and Health and Safety regulationsStrong organisational and time-management skillsYou''ll Interact With
