About the Role

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference to the lives of young people?

Do you have a passion for supporting children and young people with physical disabilities, helping them access education, develop independence and reach their full potential?

Academics are working with Alternative Provision settings across Gloucestershire and are looking for caring, patient and enthusiastic Learning Partners to support pupils with a range of additional needs, particularly those with physical disabilities.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a supportive educational environment, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and ensuring they feel included, valued and encouraged.

You may already have experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Healthcare Assistant, Support Worker or within a specialist education setting. Equally, if you have the right attitude, a caring nature and a genuine desire to support young people, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

As a Learning Partner, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to support pupils both inside and outside the classroom. You will play an important role in making learning accessible, promoting independence and helping every young person achieve their individual goals.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with physical disabilities and additional needs.

  • Supporting pupils to access classroom activities, learning resources and the wider school environment.

  • Assisting with mobility and physical needs in line with individual care plans, training and school procedures.

  • Supporting personal care routines where required, always maintaining dignity, privacy and respect.

  • Encouraging independence, confidence and participation in learning and social activities.

  • Adapting activities and providing practical assistance to help pupils overcome barriers to learning.

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals to support each pupil''s individual needs.

  • Building positive, trusting relationships and providing consistent encouragement and reassurance.

  • Promoting a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

  • Following safeguarding procedures and supporting pupils'' health, safety and wellbeing at all times.

About You

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about helping young people with additional needs access the best possible education.

The ideal Learning Partner will have:

  • A caring, patient and understanding approach.

  • A genuine interest in supporting pupils with physical disabilities and additional needs.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to build positive relationships with young people.

  • A flexible, proactive and practical approach to supporting learning.

  • The confidence to work as part of a team and follow guidance from teaching and specialist staff.

  • An understanding of the importance of safeguarding, dignity and promoting independence.

Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential for every placement. We would particularly welcome applications from people with backgrounds in:

  • Special Educational Needs (SEN) and specialist education.

  • Physical disability support.

  • Healthcare and rehabilitation.

  • Support work and personal care.

  • Teaching Assistant or Learning Support roles.

Full setting-specific guidance and training will be provided where required. Any personal care or physical support duties will be carried out in accordance with appropriate training, individual care plans and setting policies.
